Early Perseid Meteor
August 8, 2026
Albany, Missouri
This was a very bright early Perseid meteor entering the atmosphere about 4 days before the expected shower peak. Notice the bright train of ionized gas left over several seconds after the flash. The meteor terminates in a bright flash near the star Vega.
This clip is from the same night as the bright "point-source" meteor that I recorded in the southeastern sky that was not related to the Perseid Meteor Shower.
It was a busy night for meteors. See the timestamp in the lower-left corner of the video.
