Northern lights - Abisko Abisko, in northern Sweden, is considered one of the best places in the world to observe the aurora. Located above the Arctic Circle within the auroral oval, the region experiences frequent auroral activity. In addition, local geography often produces a so-called “blue hole” — a persistent area of clearer sky caused by surrounding mountains that block much of the incoming cloud cover. Because of these conditions, Abisko in Abisko National Park offers many clear nights for aurora watching. Even outside the peak of the solar cycle, the aurora can remain active this far north, allowing observers to witness the dancing lights of the Aurora Borealis over the Arctic landscape.
