Details:
A brilliant geomagnetic substorm ignited the sky above Alaska’s Copper River Valley on September 9, 2026, at 2:50 a.m. AKDT (1050 UTC). With my camera set for a long exposure, I used a multi-colored pinch light to “light write” one word into the frame — and that word says it all. September may be wet, but it is also one of the most rewarding months for aurora hunting. My wife & I spent much of the day driving through rain as we skedaddled out of Anchorage, chasing the hope of clear skies. Then, just when it mattered, the clouds parted in the cool of the night. The wonder of it all!
