The last afternoon we spent in Galicia this summer (a few days after the total solar eclipse), we went to say goodbye from a very special place, very close to where my grandfather, like so many other Galician sailors, lost his life at sea.
That afternoon, atmospheric refraction gifted us one of the most stunning mirages I have ever seen. With the Sun already below the horizon, the polar image showed the peculiar shape of what looks to me like a ship(1), along with the square Sun so typical of this mirage(2).
